Online Ticket Sales! CHC moves into the 21st Century

Yes, fellow CHC members, it's true. Thanks to the magic of the InterWebs (and the good people at Brown Paper Tickets) we now have an online box office. Tickets for the December concert can be purchased through our website (which, if you don't know it, is www.capitolhillchorale.org) using a major credit card. There is a relatively low service fee, which is paid by the ticket buyer, of $1.49 for general seating and $1.61 for preferred seating. Buyers get an email confirmation and tickets mailed to them. Will call is also available up to 12 hours before the concert.

Season tickets are also available through our website. They can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/24433. There is a fee of $2.49 for the season tickets. That's still a savings of $13.51 over the regular ticket price.

Volunteers needed Saturday Morning (just an hour or two)

From Jim Travis:
I wanted to remind all Capitol Hill Choralers about an opportunity to volunteer several hours of time this Saturday morning to help out in a very important outreach activity with our supporters in the community - getting our annual mailing out the door.

Every year, we mail several thousand of our friends and supporters a brochure describing the coming performance season as well as a formal request asking our supporters to continue giving generously to fund our operations.  This mailing helps us generate much needed financial resources and the help we get every year stuffing envelopes from CHC volunteers like you critical to our success.
My goal is to have at least 15 CHC'ers help out this weekend.
Here are the details:
WHEN:           Saturday, November 10th  10:00am-1:00pm
WHERE:  Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church -- 201 4th Street, SE (Corner of 4th & Independence Avenue, SE)
Enter at Southside of the church closest to Pennsylvania Avenue - downstairs to basement entrance.
WHAT:           Be prepared to participate in an assembly line envelope stuffing process that would make Henry Ford proud.
PERKS:  Music will be provided (I have about 90 gigs on the i-pod, you name it, you'll hear it) as well as breakfast pastries
and lunch (I will be taking orders from Chinese and Mexican restaurants around the corner).
RSVP:           Please contact Jim Travis at:  james.k.travis@monsanto.com  if you will be able to help out this Saturday

ONE MORE THING:
Some CHC'ers will be arriving early around 9:00am to move our risers, which have been stored at the Presbyterian Church, back to Reformation.  We could use as many able bodies and SUV's/Trucks as possible.  Please contact Chris McGahey via e-mail at: cmcgdc@yahoo.com  if you are able to help out.

CHC Singers and Board Members Boogie at the CHAW Arts Ball.

A number of current and former CHC Singers and Board Members, their spouses, and partners danced the night away to the sounds of The Mustangs, DC's Best Soul Band at the Arts Ball, Friday, November 2.  The Ball is the major community fundraiser for the Arts Workshop and featured an open bar, excellent hors oeuvres, a silent and live auctions.  See the photos below taken by our own Ginny Gano!

Ushers needed!!!

USHERS

I am looking for ushers and ticket sellers for our December concerts.

Saturday, Dec. 1, arrive at 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. concert

Sunday, Dec. 2, arrive at 3 p.m. for a 4 p.m. concert.

There will be cookie and punch receptions following the concerts and a pre-concert
meet and greet "chat" with our composer, Kevin Siegfried.

I would like ushers (and singers) to stay to help with the reception and greet friends.

Post-Concert Receptions

As in the past, I would like to ask people to bring 'treats" for the after concert receptions.  I will be getting all the juices and paper products, but need a LITTLE help with set up and a lot of help during the reception and cleaning up.

Running for the Governing Committee

Editors note: Elections have been concluded. Erin Williams is our new At Large Member.

Reminder: We will be holding an election to fill an at-large seat on the Governing Committee for one year. Please give your nominations to a member of the Nominating Committee (Holly Degn, Jess Chaiken, John Wodatch, or Bob Mantel).

Erin Williams has added her name to the nominations with this statement (since she'll miss the next rehearsal):

Having sung with the Chorale for the past 2 seasons and participated in fund raisers like Oktoberfest and the Spaghetti dinner, I believe the group offers musical and community opportunities for not only the singers, but the Capitol Hill and DC community.  I have served on the board of other non profit organizations and would look to leverage those experiences and lessons learned with the Chorale.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in asking me to run and I look forward to the year ahead.

Admission is $10 and reservations can be made by calling 202-547-6839.  Space is limited.

Convery’s presentation is part of a musical celebration of CHAW’s 35th Anniversary Year which also includes “Where Every Voice Is Heard,” a community, concert on Sunday, October 28th, 6 PM, at the Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church (CHPC), 4th and Independence Avenue SE.  Both CHAW and CHPC are within easy walking distance of the Eastern Market Metro.  CHAW will wrap up the celebration of its 35th Anniversary Year with an Arts Ball, Friday, November 2, 2007, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

And don't forget the 35th Anniversary concert:

As part of its 35th Anniversary celebration, CHAW will present “Where Every Voice Is Heard,” at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, 4th Street and Independence Avenue, SE, Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 6:00 PM. The program features a performance of Where Every Voice Is Heard, under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Watson, the composer.  Dr. Watson’s four-part suite, which premiered during CHAW’s 30th Anniversary Year, combines adult and children voices in a powerful and charming affirmation of building community through the arts.  Chorus members hail from the Capitol Hill and the greater DC community.  Capitol Hill Youth Chorus, part of the CHAW Youth Arts Program, will offer the voices of the children.

From Michelle Cohen, CHAW Development Director

Good morning!

Both events will take place at CHAW in the dance studio, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, and will feature dance lessons, wine, snacks and lots of fun. The October 12th event will be co-hosted by KK, Erin and Amy, while the October 19th event will be co-hosted by Scott, Sharon and Colleen. CHAW 35th Anniversary Concert Oct 28th, 6pm

From CHAW's Exec Director:

As part of its 35th Anniversary celebration, CHAW is presenting a community concert on Sunday, October 28th, 6 PM, Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, 4th and Independence Avenue SE.  We would love to have you and your friends, colleagues, partners, and families join us in singing "Where Every Voice Is Heard," composed by former CHAW ED Jeffery Watson.  Jeffery's composition is a lovely and joyful affirmation of CHAW's mission statement:  building community through the arts.  As a special treat, he combined adult and children's voices.  Our very own Capitol Hill Youth Chorus will be taking up the children's parts.  There are no auditions, just your interest in participating.  Speaking as a singer, Jeffery has written a musical and accessible composition which is very satisfying to sing.  The rehearsals are listed below.  They are designed to fit flexible schedules -- you need not commit to every one.  As learning assists, we will be offering a recording of the piece for $2.

Monday rehearsals at CHAW with Jeffery Watson, at 7:30 PM-8:45 PM, as follows:

 September 24,
October 1,
October 8,
October 15,
October 22,

Tuesday Rehearsals at St. James' Episcopal Church, 222 8th Street NE (between Constitution and C Streets NE) in the Parish Hall, 7:30-8:15, with Paul Heins, Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C., and Jeffery Watson

 September 25
October 2
October 16
October 23

The dress rehearsal is on Friday, October 26th, 7 PM at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, and participants can anticipate an afternoon call before the concert on October 28th.

Finally, we are interested in musical offerings from faculty, staff, and students to the concert. Be aware that there will be no amplification available.

Please contact me if you want to sing or participate.
