Alto Notes 1/23
Greetings Altos!
Jan 23 Alto Sectional notes CHC
State of the Alto Union Rehearsal!
For Stephanie and Maggie
I cannot thank you all enough for arriving early for the Alto
sectionals. Fred emphasizes sectionals early and often and I know he is
appreciative of all of your efforts to get there and drill through the
passages. (I love when the Bass’ pop in and realize they are out in the big
room. ha!) We rehearsed #12 and #10. Thank you, Thank you, Thank
you! Kudos to our pianist Leanne.
For Saturday, please look through Rach. #5, 7 & 8 (Skipping 6 because
we sang it at last concert- new folks make sure you read through…It is
beautiful)
Saturday’s afternoon rehearsal will fly by. We usually bag lunch-
just like grammar school in the old days, “Hey you have Freedo Lay
chips. Want to trade for a Ring-ding?†Round table eating for the first
hour and then from 1-3 singing thru our work. Ginny usually has some
ice breaking exercise where we go throughout the choir and learn about
other folks- where they are from (How come so many are from Michigan?-
hence the source of Fred’s mid-west pronunciation jokes) Break for
cake, fruit, juice and then back at the singing until 5. Members of
Alexandria Choral Society will be sprinkled throughout our sectional so it
will literally fly by! If you can only make half of the Saturday
rehearsal, just come. I know at least one person may be late due to work.
Just email me: jfoconnor@earthlink.net.
Important note, (which I have to finish as well), write the translation
above the movements in the Rach. It will help in the interpretation of
the music. Trust me! Also, the Estonian recording will really help in
understanding the music. Listen to it in the car, in your home, at the
office, in the shower, in the elevator, in the post office line, etc.
Jess has it the pronunciation tape translated for those who have
I-PODs. Let me know if you don’t have access to making a copy and I’ll
get one made for you.
