Notes:
Rachmaninoff:
No. 8

- m18, ritard
- m40, slight ritard, cut off right on 3
- m33, take a lift before the pick up to clear the texture
- m36, G is coming across flat, so keep the pitch up
- m19, too thin, needs a richer sound
No. 10

- m11-12, ff throughout
Howells:

2/20
THE HOWELLS: Soprano Is are now singing Choir I throughout this piece (as are all the firsts in the choir).
CUT PIECES: Rachmaninoff movements 9 and 12, Vaughan Williams "Lord Thou Hast Been Our Refuge".
Notes:
Howells:
- Pitches were a major problem throughout this piece. I think it was because we were singing without the piano more than previously and it's tricky to blend with a new choir, but we just need to keep this in mind. Think high!
- don't put "h"es in eis; glide over the eighth notes
- breathe in early at the beginning of this piece; in general there should be no audible breaths anywhere.
Movement I
- m17-18, no breath in Choir II
- Re-"quih"-em, not re-"quee"-em
- more line when singing "Saviour", not so choppy
- pronounced "Say-vyuh"
Movement III
- m32, cresc
- m29, mp
- m35-36, no breath Choir II
Movement V
- keep the D high
- m16, B natural was too low
- m15, need better cresc
- m18-19, no breath
- m17, breath after "eis"
- m22, breath before "dona"
- we sound too gloomy; change color, not just pitches and dynamics
Movement VI
- m13, no breath
- SII, more rhapsodic on the triplets, enjoy them :o)
Rachmaninoff:
No. 6
- last measure, aspirate the "h"
- m26-27, no breath
- keep eighths more connected
- breaths less audible
No. 1
- more breath support needed at end of movement to keep pitch up
- m29, delay the diminuendo a bit
No. 3
- don't clip alliluiya when taking lifts
