Volunteers Need to Pass Out Flyers
Saturday/Sunday at Eastern Market. Marian Connolly is looking for
someone who can organize volunteers to pass out flyers this weekend at the
Market. If we could get 3-4 people to hand out flyers on 7th Street,
including at the flea market entrance, maybe for an hour in the late morning and
another hour in early afternoon, that would be terrific.
We found this weekend that sitting next to the
Community Foundation did not result in ticket sales. People are drawn to the
Foundation's tent and tables to write out checks or buy tee-shirts. However,
many stopped for information which has led to changing the focus from
selling tickets to getting out information about the concerts. Please
email marian if you can organize the volunteers this weekend (marian.connolly@verizon.net).
And here's this from Jason Levine who is managing the website for the recovery efforts:
In addition, the Capitol Hill Chorale has committed to donating half of the proceeds from their concerts the first weekend in June to the CHCF fund. The chorale is an 80-voice ensemble that has been a part of the Capitol Hill community since 1993; they perform works ranging from the classics to popular songs, from folk to jazz, and these are the last performances of the season! The concerts are on June 2nd at 8 PM and on June 3rd at 4 PM, both will be held at the Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church (at 4th Street SE and Independence Avenue), and tickets cost $20 for general seating ($25 for preferred seating, and children under 12 are free). Supporting the Market with good music right in the neighborhood -- it doesn't get any better.
