Yes, fellow CHC members, it's true. Thanks to the magic of the InterWebs (and the good people at Brown Paper Tickets) we now have an online box office. Tickets for the December concert can be purchased through our website (which, if you don't know it, is www.capitolhillchorale.org) using a major credit card. There is a relatively low service fee, which is paid by the ticket buyer, of $1.49 for general seating and $1.61 for preferred seating. Buyers get an email confirmation and tickets mailed to them. Will call is also available up to 12 hours before the concert.

Season tickets are also available through our website. They can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/24433. There is a fee of $2.49 for the season tickets. That's still a savings of $13.51 over the regular ticket price.

Tell your friends!!!
opportunity to volunteer several hours of time this Saturday morning to help out
in a very important outreach activity with our supporters in the community -
getting our annual mailing out the door.
Every
year, we mail several thousand of our friends and supporters a brochure

From Eric Tobias:

I am very pleased to announce that the Search Committee for the Executive Director of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop has selected Jill Strachan as the new Executive Director of the Workshop. And I'm even more pleased to announce that Jill has accepted the position. As many of you know, Jill has been a long time supporter of the Workshop, first serving as interim Executive Director more than four years ago, then as a board member, co-development director, grant writer, consultant, and facilitator. Jill stepped into the breach again almost two months ago when she volunteered to once again become interim Executive Director after the Workshop's three most senior people left the organization all within a short period. Her steady-hand during the past six weeks has yielded unbelievable results: (a) despite the shortage of hands, the doors of the Workshop opened every day and we have an incredibly
successful summer camp; (b) the Workshop received a $15,000 grant from the Cafritz Foundation; (c) she hired two wonderful new staff members, both of whom will supply the Workshop with a fabulous new energy; and (d) she has built bridges to the faculty and mentored the staff. I want to be clear. The search committee did not select Jill because she was easy choice. The Committee selected her because she is the right choice. The committee conducted an exhaustive examination for an Executive Director. The Search Committee reviewed 18 applications and conducted 17 initial phone and in-person interviews. The applicant pool was particularly deep. The Committee brought in for final interviews four candidates whose experiences covered the whole range of arts
education and nonprofit management and education including an individual who founded a nonprofit that has been serving the DC area for more than 15 years and a person who was part of the management team that grew at local theatre by an order of magnitude during her ten years stay. The committee was very impressed by the high caliber of applications we received, which speaks well of the Arts Workshop and its mission. But in the end, the Committee without hesitation selected Jill because she has the right mix of management, fundraising and mentoring experience, a wonderful vision for the Workshop and an unrivaled passion for the arts and
mission for the Workshop. Jill will make an excellent leader and I look forward to working with her.
Jill is a graduate of the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in the History of Religion from Syracuse University. Since 1998 she has owned her own consulting company, Training-by-Design. Her clients include the American Pilots Association, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Episcopal Diocese of Washington, Fulbright Scholar Program, and the Gay and Lesbian Association of (GALA) Choruses.
I'd also like to thank the members of the Search Committee: Amy Dine, Colleen Jolly, Ellen Cornett, Ingrid Roper Catron, KK Ottesen, and Scott Thompson for their hard work, time and thought. Brian Huseman, who chaired the committee, deserves a particularly loud round of applause as he kept the committee focused and on a breathtaking schedule to hire a new Executive Director before the new academic year. In addition I heap praise on all members of the CHAW community for providing the committee with your thoughts and praise throughout the search process. Welcome Jill -- and congratulations to all as we embark on a new era.
Best,
--eric
